Popular Poker Variations

Casino Tips

One of the best things about playing any kind of casino game online instead of at brick-and-mortar venue is the massive array of choices you have. Thanks to the World Wide Web not having any kind of space limitations, there are simply more titles for you to have fun with at any given point in time, and Poker is a great example of this.

So, joining in the grand traditions of players as esteemed as Doc Holliday, it’s time to start exploring your many options when it comes to this first-rate game online.

2-7 Triple Draw

This thrilling variation has players each dealt their own 5-card hands with no face-up or exposed cards so other players will not be able to view them. It’s a Low-Ball variation, so players have 3 draw attempts to try and make the best of their low hands.

Bear in mind, however, that, unlike other Low-Ball Poker games, straights and flushes do count in 2-7 Triple Draw. This means that the best possible hand is 7-5-4-3-2 and that hands like A-2-3-4-5 aren’t straights but Ace-Highs instead.

5-Card Draw

In this game, you’ll be trying to make the highest-ranked 5-Card hand. Players each get dealt separate hands which remain hidden from their fellows. This creates an interesting dynamic in that you can look to make the strongest possible card combination for yourself, but you also have no idea how it will fare against the other players’ hands.

7-Card Stud

Before the relatively recent emergence of Texas Hold’em as the world’s most beloved Poker variation, Stud held ground as the one most commonly played. You’ll receive your own hand in this variation too, but some cards will be facing up so that other players can see them. The others will be face-down, for your eyes only.

Omaha Hi

Omaha Hi is the second-most popular Poker game in the world in modern times and the Hi refers to the fact that the highest hand gets the entirety of the pot at the showdown. It’s usually played as a pot-limit game and can also be referred to as this, Pot-Limit Omaha, or PLO.

It’s played like Texas Hold’em with one small difference. There are 4 hole cards dealt to each player instead of 2. But you’ll still be trying to make the best 5-card hand with 2 of your 4 hole cards and 3 of the 5 community cards at showdown. Because you’re dealt more cards when the hand starts, making a good hand is easier in this game. The possibility of 2-hole card combinations increases by 6X!

Texas Hold’em

This is the king of variations at the moment and if you find a site that offers Poker, you’ll almost certainly be able to join a Texas Hold’em table. Most players, amateur and pro, who have woken up to the fun of this game since the early 200s will be very familiar with No Limit Texas Hold’em. It’s the most heavily televised and popularised variant and offers easy-to-learn hand rankings and basic rules.
